» Responding to Protest

Posted on: June 24, 2019

There have recently been a few instances of homophobic and transphobic protesters outside local Episcopal churches. At St. John’s, we sadly do run a risk (but by no means a certainty) of having someone protest outside our parish.

How can we best respond if this were to happen? In this video, the Rev. Tim Kingsley advises us:
Don’t engage — because often these particular protesters’ main goal is to provoke a response that will allow them to bring a lawsuit.
Report the incident to your parish leadership and ECMN.
Pray for the protesters and those who will be hurt by their words and hate.

If you have more questions about this or other security issues, please talk to Jered Weber-Johnson or contact the Rev. Tim Kingsley.
