November: “Seeing, Noticing, and Welcoming Eucharistic Symbols in the Media”

In November, St. John’s parishioners and neighbors are invited to take part in thoughtful, creative, respectful, and spiritual conversations about seeing the Eucharist in Film and Television. Watch the film beforehand and come ready to discuss it Tuesday nights from 5:30pm-7:30pm in W.A. Frost’s Fireside Dining Room. Continue the discussion Sunday mornings in the Fireside Room during our 9am faith forums.

Attendees will purchase their own food or beverages individually while at W.A. Frost.

November 5 and November 10: Dr. Don Postema, Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Bethel University, will facilitate a conversation about Eucharistic symbols in the 1984 film “Babette’s Feast.”

November 12 and November 17: Dr. Jennifer Awes Freeman, Assistant Professor and Program Director of Arts and Theology at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, will facilitate a conversation about Eucharistic symbols in the 1996 film “Big Night.”

November 19 and November 24: The Rev. Barbara Mraz, St. John’s Writer in Residence, and Dr. Lynn Hartmann, Professor of Oncology Emerita at the Mayo Clinic, will facilitate a conversation about Eucharistic symbols in the “Thanksgiving” episode from the television series ‘Master of None’ (2017).
