Thank you for your interest in the Columbarium at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church. We hope the following information is helpful to you.
The Columbarium was created in 1986 to provide the members of St. John’s and their families with an interment space within the sanctuary of the Church. It has 252 niches, arranged in a grid pattern. Each niche has the capacity to store two urns, with the exception of the top row which can store only one urn. Beautiful oak urns are available for purchase from the Church. The urns are properly sized to allow two urns to be interred in one niche.
The purchase price of a niche is seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) and the price includes one properly sized urn. If the purchaser chooses to purchase a second urn from St. John’s, the purchase can be done at the time of purchasing the niche (the second urn is $150) and the purchase will be noted on the Purchase Agreement. The urns normally will be stored in the purchased niche. The second urn may be purchased later, at the current market pricing. If the purchaser chooses to use urns other than those made by Jonathan Frost, they should not exceed the following dimensions: 8.75 inches long by 5.75 inches wide by 3.5 inches high.
The purchase of a niche grants the use of the niche for the interment of the cremated remains of two persons, but it does not grant the purchaser the ownership of the physical niche.
The prospective purchasers should know that specific niches are reserved only by executing a signed purchase agreement and receipt of payment by the church.
Persons desiring to purchase a niche need to obtain two forms (available below): a Columbarium Purchase Agreement and a Columbarium Lettering Specifications form. After completing the forms, they should return them to the church office with their payment. (Checks should be made payable to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, with a memo notation of “for columbarium purchase”.) The documents are signed by a committee member and a copy of each document is returned to the purchaser.
