Hearts to Homes (H2H) supports families coming out of homelessness that show the potential and desire to establish secure homes in our community. We partner with the YWCA of St. Paul, located in our neighborhood at 375 Selby Ave. The YWCA provides professional caseworkers and we provide a volunteer mentor for each family. The caseworker and H2H mentor work together to offer personal and financial support to the families while they are in transition. Our collaboration provides more than either of us could accomplish alone.
As we work with individual families struggling to find security in St. Paul, we pray that our efforts, joined with those of other churches and service groups, will strengthen the social fabric of our community so that all children will have stable homes.
Funding for H2H is provided by St John’s through the largesse of our contributing members. We also hold an annual Chili Cook Off in the fall to gather household items for our families and come together as a community to support them. There are a number of opportunities to volunteer with H2H:
- Mentor the head of household
- Attend monthly meetings to share in decision-making around family support
- Work with the committee that hosts the annual Chili Cook Off
- Help families in need at a critical time
- Write H2H articles for The Evangelist
