There is only one more Sunday in Lent before Palm Sunday when we enter into Holy Week.  People have missed the choir processing in and out during this time of Lent.  Reserving the great pomp and circumstance of processions until Easter Sunday only makes more evident our belief in the Resurrection.  The Easter liturgy is about making Easter the most uplifting, bright, celebratory event with an amazing processional with the choir singing hymns of “Alleluias” and once again shouting: “Alleluia, alleluia, Christ has risen, the Lord has risen indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!”  That is what we as Christians are all about: the Resurrection.

This Sunday, 1:30 – 4 p.m.:  “The Big Event” at St. Christopher’s, Roseville.  This is the gathering of all East Metro parishes as part of Bishop Prior’s congregational visits.  It will be an opportunity for parishioners from 17 parishes to get to know one another, perhaps renew some former friendships and make new ones.  All 17 parishes have been asked to participate in an informational fair displaying something that represents a ministry they are supporting.  Jennifer Kinkaid and others will emphasize the role St. John’s has played in the building of the Clinic in Kayoro.  A sampling of African food will also be part of that presentation.

At 4 o’clock all will gather in the church to share conversations they have heard from each other.  Bishop Prior will share what he has heard and how he sees the Spirit moving in the East Metro areas.

Please come for all or any part of the afternoon.  We’ll see you there.

Youth Group Fundraiser – Strudels and more strudels!  Fruit Strudels and Savory Strudels.  The fruit strudels are $15 each and the Savory Strudels are $20 each.  The savory strudel is a new thing for me and they sound delicious.  The sale will be both this Sunday, April 10 and again on April 17 in the Undercroft!  All proceeds go to fund the Youth Group’s Mission Trips.  Want to know about their Mission Trips?  Ask them.

Announcements in church – I have been asked that announcements be short and limited to one or two minutes.  Announcements that are printed in the bulletin may require some special attention only if they are time sensitive otherwise they may not be repeated.  This is to honor the time we have together in worship.

No announcements will be made on Palm Sunday.  Only necessary announcements will be made on Easter Sunday.

GOOD FRIDAY Liturgy will be different this year.  The Noon Good Friday Service will follow the Book of Common Prayer Good Friday Liturgy (page 276-282).  The service is expected to be less than one hour.  The 7 p.m. Service will feature Haydn’s Seven Last Words played by the Artaria Quartet.  This service is expected to last approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

NETS FOR LIFE – During Lent we have been asked to be a part of the Mission Outreach proposed by Bishop Prior.  Mission Project 2011: NetsforLife® is the first in an annual missionary effort of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota designed to unite our congregations during Lent by focusing on a single project. Mission Project 2011 partners with Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation and Episcopal Relief & Development’s NetsforLife® campaign to purchase anti-malarial nets for people in sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal is to purchase one net for each Episcopalian in Minnesota. If every community participates, that would be nearly 20,000 nets. Each net cost $12.  Please help with this project.

EASTER SUNDAY PARISH PHOTO – Jim Frazier is in the process of writing a new history of St. John the Evangelist.  As part of that project on Easter Sunday following the 10 a.m. service everyone is asked to please gather around the outside of the front glass doors on the steps and overflowing as necessary, for a group photo. This will need to be done quickly as the professional photographer will be in place and ready for action as soon as we can get organized!

If you want to walk faster you walk alone. If you want to walk farther you walk together.
