Advent Parish Read
“Why do people keep asking to see God’s identity papers when the darkness opening into morning is more than enough?” (Mary Oliver, Felicity)
Please join us in this Advent season as we read Mary Oliver’s new collection, Felicity. In these poems, she meditates on love and nature, describing with joy the strangeness and wonder of human connection. The New York Times Book Review says, “There is no complaint in Ms. Oliver’s poetry, no whining, but neither is there the sense that life is in any way easy . . . These poems sustain us rather than divert us. Although few poets have fewer human beings in their poems than Mary Oliver, it is ironic that few poets also go so far to help us forward.”
Copies of the book will be available at Saint John’s; a donation of ten dollars is appreciated but not required.
On January 3rd at 7 pm, we will join parishioners from Saint Mary’s and Saint Clement’s for a contemplative Eucharist, discussion, at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church. Dessert will be served! For more information, click here to contact Kate Bradtmiller.
