Blessed Ramadan Signs & Dinners

To stand against hateful rhetoric and demonstrate a caring spirit, the Minnesota Council of Churches is coordinating a yard sign campaign that supports our Muslim neighbors during Ramadan (May 26-June 25) this year. The signs read: “To Our Muslim Neighbors: Blessed Ramadan.”
In Ramadan, a holy month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Fasting during Ramadan, which falls during the summer season, is one of the “five pillars” of Islam and is performed to learn compassion, self-restraint, and generosity.
Pick up your sign from Dave Borton in the narthex on May 28. A $10 donation is requested to cover the cost. You may also find a PDF of a free version to print out at home and put in your window at
St. John’s parishioners are also encouraged to attend Taking Heart Iftar dinners during the month of Ramadan. Join with our Muslim neighbors to eat together and share stories. Taking Heart is a long-running program coordinated by MCC and the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-MN) in which mosques and Islamic Community Centers welcome their non-Muslim neighbors for the traditional evening Iftar meals that break the day-long Ramadan fast. This program helps regular people of different faiths get to know each other over a meal and conversation. They are free and open to the public. Sign up to attend at
