This I Believe
Answering the questions, “Who is God to me?” and “What do I believe?” are essential parts of our journey as people of faith. This Lent, we will explore these questions through the lens of This I Believe. This I Believe is an international project engaging people in writing, sharing, and discussing the core values and beliefs that guide their daily lives.
This I Believe at Saint John’s
Here at Saint John’s, you are invited to reflect on your faith and core values during Lent using the This I Believe series in two ways—through the Lenten read and through crafting your own essay during our evening Lenten program.
On Wednesday evenings beginning February 25, join us from 6-7:30pm in the Gathering Space as we reflect on some of the This I Believe archive of essays and engage in exercises to help us distill our own faith and core beliefs into writing that finishes the statement, “This I believe…” A simple soup supper will be provided. Come with us as we explore how we articulate our faith, what makes each of our faith journeys unique, and how we share our stories with those we love.
Parish Wide Lenten Reading
Copies of This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women, edited by Jay Allison and Dan Gediman, will be available for all who wish to read along during Lent. The book includes both essays from the 1950s series and the present-day revival. You can pick up a paperback copy at St. John’s beginning on February 8. Donations of $10 are welcome, but not required.
If you would like to read it electronically, you can purchase it via our own Holly Weinkauf for the Kobo app, or through other retailers if your e-reader is not Kobo equipped.
St. Mark’s Stations of the Cross
St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral and the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross are hosting “Meditation and Reflection on the Stations of the Cross” on Saturday, March 14 from 9:00 am—noon at St. Mark’s. The stations include original watercolors, written meditations, and a docent companion at each station. Music will be provided by Ginna Watson and the women’s ensemble Lumina. Please RSVP to [email protected], or simply show up that morning. The event is free and all are welcome.
