St. John’s has hosted the Artaria Chamber Music School (ACMS) from its inception in 2002. Founded and operated by members of the Artaria String Quartet, the school teaches students the techniques and artistry needed to interpret important Classical, Romantic, and Modern Era chamber music masterpieces.
Public performances are a key part of Artaria’s pedagogy. ACMS groups have been invited to appear on Minnesota Public Radio and APM’s From the Top, and are national prizewinners of the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition. Students, age 13 – 19, also participate in the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, the Minnesota Youth Symphonies, and the Kamoinge String Ensemble at Walker West Music Academy.
At St. John’s we are blessed to host three ACMS concerts every year; Fall, Winter, and Spring. Free to all, the concerts are a fantastic opportunity to hear young artists perform works of past and living composers in small ensembles in the beautiful setting of our church.

ACMS extends a special invitation to you to set aside a couple of hours next week to enjoy and support these young musicians who have learned and honed their craft at St. John’s. The Artaria Chamber Music School Fall Concert, dedicated to music of the “Enlightenment” Era and featuring works by Joseph Haydn and Beethoven, takes place on Friday, November 14, at 5:45pm in the Church. Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the CYF Center (on the lower level below the worship space).
