Lenten Devotional: John 7:37–52

by Shelley Byrnes

I often need to look at my own embedded theology in order to actually hear what God is saying to me. Things I learned as a child in church I either heard incorrectly, misinterpreted as I grew older, or was just plain taught wrong. Yet, if I keep an open mind and watch for Love, I come closer and closer to God.

Like Mr Rogers said, “when bad things happen, watch for the helpers.” When there is division among Christians, I try to see where Love is. That helps me to see where God is – even if it’s from Galilee!

These photographs, shared each day during Lent, capture the beauty of plants native to the Upper Midwest. As we spend time in Lenten reflection, these images of new life can remind us daily of our calling to be caretakers of God’s Creation.
