» About

All of us are on a journey of some sort: from birth to death, from death to life, from doubt to belief, and back again. We can take this journey alone, or in community.

Wherever you are, we welcome you. We are here to walk together through the uncertainties, the “aha” moments, the dark nights of the soul, and the heart’s joys.

What Episcopalians Believe

Episcopalians believe that God is revealed in many ways, primarily through Scripture, the wisdom of the church and its 2000-year history, and through our own reason and experience. These are the “tools” we use to search for God. You do not have to “check your mind” at the door of the church. We believe that there is integrity in honest doubt, and that it is the gateway into an honest faith.

Why church?

Historian Joseph Campbell said that the reason for practicing a specific religious tradition is that it is “a shortcut into the mystery.” Christians strive to believe that Jesus is one of the panes of glass through which we see God. We have utmost respect for the fact that others see the Divine through panes of glass that are theirs alone.

Life is glorious and difficult. Christians believe that God is present in countless ways in our world and in our lives, helping us understand and live in the reality of what John Updike calls “the vulnerability to which love dooms us all.”

Wherever, you are, join us and take the next step. As Holocaust survivor and writer Eli Wiesel put it, “Each day we make a choice between repeating ourselves, and choosing to grow.”

Collect for St. John’s

Gracious God: by your love you have called us to proclaim with joy the good news of your son: So build us up in the knowledge and love of Him that we may welcome all people into this community of faith, and show forth our service to you in our service to others. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
