Compline

The Service of Night Prayer

Resumes Thursday, October 5, 2023

To learn more, contact Richard Gray at [email protected].

Compline is the last of the daily offices (prayers that mark a particular time of day). In keeping with the earliest practices of the monastic communities, Compline is offered by candlelight at a time when the work of the day is finished and the quietness of evening begins to settle over the hearts and minds of those gathered in prayer.

Usually, Compline services are held at 7pm in the church every Thursday during the program year (except for Thanksgiving, Maundy Thursday, and other special services). Compline is not held in the summer months. This is a short service of ancient prayers, psalms, chanting, and mystery. Incense is used.

To get an idea of what the office of compline is — or to pray along in your home at any time — you can watch previous services on our YouTube channel here:

A generous gift from John Graham provided the seed money to begin offering Compline as a weekly service. To sustain it on an ongoing basis, the fund will need your continued financial support. Click here if you would like to make a donation (choose “John Graham Compline Fund” from the fund dropdown).
