St. John’s Spiritual Life Groups nurture the spirit in intentional communities.
In the wider community, we advocate for hunger relief, safe housing, and accessible health services. We pursue our mission through local and global partnerships, personal service, supportive prayer, and financial contributions.
We believe God is revealed in many ways, primarily through Scripture, the wisdom of the church and its history, and our own reason and experience. These are the “tools” we use to search for God.
Wherever you may be in your spiritual journey, we welcome you!
The music program at St. John’s engages people of all ages in a wide range of musical possibilities. Our ensembles provide a sense of belonging, a place where people care about one another. Together we discover what it means to sing and rejoice in the Lord through music.
The ministry of pastoral care is shared by every member of our parish. As Christians in community, we care for one another.
St. John’s ongoing impact relies on you — our parishioners — to commit time, talent, and financial support, to sustain the ministries that improve the lives of our members and the communities we support.
We are so glad you found your way to St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church. Whether you are a long time Episcopalian or have never stepped foot in a church, we welcome you!
Regarding Covid: Masks are not required at this time but disposable masks are available as you enter.
We know that walking into a new church can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially one in a new tradition. At St. John’s we strive to create an environment where everyone can feel welcome, whether they are brand-new to the Episcopal Church or a longtime member.
Dress however you feel comfortable. Some of our members dress up; others come in a t-shirt and jeans. We gather to encounter Jesus and be built up in community, not to keep up appearances. So come as you are.
You can expect a celebration of Holy Eucharist to last a little over an hour. It will include readings from Scripture, music, a sermon, and of course Holy Communion. We worship from the Book of Common Prayer, but we have a bulletin that guides you through the service if you don’t want to navigate a book.
After the service, we gather for a coffee hour where you can chat with people and learn more about the goings-on in the parish. Whether you stay for coffee hour or not, we look forward to welcoming you and getting to know you!
St. John’s is located one block north of Summit Ave at Kent St. & Portland. Ample parking is available in our lot kitty-corner to the church. Handicap spaces are available next to the church on Kent St.
From I-94, take the Dale St. N exit and go South for approx. ½ mile to Portland. Turn left. St. John’s is one block ahead on your left. Turn right at Kent St. for the parking lot.
