school_tools_logoSt. John The Evangelist takes part in the Interfaith Action School Tools Drive each August. We collect school supplies that Interfaith Action distributes to homeless and low-income children.  We ask that the supplies be new.  The items needed include:

Pencils (regular and colored), pens, erasable pensScience calculators
Composition notebooksPocket dictionaries
Facial tissues in boxes or individual packsErasers
Three ring binders and trapper keepersPoster boards
Markers, highlighters, and crayons (8-10 large and 24-48 regular size)Rulers
Spiral note books (narrow and wide ruled)Backpacks
Glue sticks and bottlesScissors
School boxesCalculators
Loose leaf paper (wide and narrow ruled)Folders
Pencil sharpenersDisplay boards
White out / correction tapeWatercolor paints

Supplies are collected at church from July 14-August 18 and then delivered to Interfaith Action. In 2016, 30 faith communities, individuals, and community groups (including St. John’s) dropped off more than 550 backpacks and other important school supplies worth an estimated $16,789. Additional monetary donations in the amount of $1,135 were also given and will be used to purchase additional needed school supply items.
